Does anyone know of the existance of a list of X apps ported to OS/2?

I'd like to see how much efforted is required to migrate everything to the
/usr/X11R6 directory structure.

There used to be on Holger Veith's page, but the link does not work anymore.
You can have a look at http://archiv.leo.org/pub/comp/os/os2/leo/x11/

You can have a look at
http://archiv.leo.org/pub/comp/os/os2/leo/x11/
As much as I liked leo as reliable source of
"normal" OS/2 applications, I always had the
impression that it's collection of X11 apps
was rather incomplete and outdated ...
A quick look tends to prove that point.
With the decline in OS/2 interest as far a LEO goes, I think it would be
useful to create a new home for X apps for OS/2 and try to keep it as
uptodate as possible...

hi,

do you know about
<http://os2ports.com/downloads/index_html?dir=pub>
i don't know who runs this, and don't understand its file/folder
structure, but there's really lot of unix-software for os/2,
even newer stuff.

You're surely right. Unfortunately, I don't know anything better.
Several games can be found at
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-browse?sh=1&dir=/pub/os2/games/puzzle
too, like xpat etc.

OS2ports has a fairly extensive collection. The gimp is hosted at netlabs and http://www.fortunecity.de/wolkenkratzer/mars/341/enlight_download.html has a bunch of Gnome, enlightenment etc files.
Looks like there is a new Enlightenment with sound support there. DLing it now

There are quite a lot of ported X apps all over the place, but some are
very old and may well have been replaced by newer versions but they might
only exist on other sites.

What would be really good is to start from scratch somewhere with apps
built for XFree86 v4.4+ using the new directory structure, but first we
need a list of the apps which have been ported so they can be tackled in a
logical, systematic way.

It would be nice to get a directory listing of those apps at OS2ports as
well as the other repositories of OS/2 ported X apps.

Actually I think the most upto date page for enlightenment etc is http://birdy.os2.ru/u_enlight_about.html and the new enlightenment package is actually a couple of years old.
Another related page is http://os2.in.ru/software/xfree86/theen.html which I think is Platons page. Also check out os2.in.ru though most is in Russian
Its a shame just how many X11 pages I have bookmarked that do not resolve now or haven't been update this century.

/usr/X11R6 directory structure.
Well I just checked out my /XFree86/bin directory. Searching for
/XFree86/ gives 82 matches use 19,359,764 bytes
Grepping just in the *.exe gives 59 matches use 17,449,980 bytes of
which a number will have been updated with ver 4.4 to point to
/usr/X11R6, eg xterm, xman, xserver etc. I'd still say about 40 apps
that I have installed here point to /XFree86 in their binary form. Then
there would be various scripts in lib, share, and include. At that
searching the whole /XFree86 tree gives 514 matches use 83,491,654
bytes. A lot of these are readmes, html files, and others that don't
matter but a fair number are *.h, *.a, *.la, *.lib, *.dll. There are a
lot of apps that would need to be rebuilt and some I'm sure will be a
bitch. eg I built fluxbox 0.9.0 last year. Tried again the other day
and couldn't get it to build.

I'd suggest starting with glib and gtk as a lot of apps depend on them. As usual libraries need to come first.

I never succeeded in building glib. Last time I tried, I ended up with
this:-

cp gutils.o gutils.lo
g:/bin/sh ./libtool --mode=link gcc -Wall -o libglib.la -rpath
/usr/local/lib -version-info 0:1:0 -release 1.2 garray.lo gcache.lo
gcompletion.lo gdataset.lo gdate.lo gerror.lo ghash.lo ghook.lo
giochannel.lo giounix.lo glist.lo gmain.lo gmem.lo gmessages.lo gmutex.lo
gnode.lo gprimes.lo grel.lo gscanner.lo gslist.lo gstrfuncs.lo gstring.lo
gtimer.lo gtree.lo gutils.lo
libtool: link: warning: undefined symbols not allowed in i386-pc-os2-emx
shared libraries
rm -fr .libs/libglib.la .libs/glib.* .libs/glib-1.2.*
ar cru .libs/glib.a
garray.o
gcache.o
gcompletion.o
gdataset.o
gdate.o
gerror.o
ghash.o
ghook.o
giochannel.o
giounix.o
glist.o
gmain.o
gmem.o
gmessages.o
gmutex.o
gnode.o
gprimes.o
grel.o
gscanner.o
gslist.o
gstrfuncs.o
gstring.o
gtimer.o
gtree.o
gutils.o

ar:
: No such file or directory
make[2]: *** [libglib.la] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/ux2bs/workdir/glib-1.2.1'

A .libs/glib.a does get created but it is only 8 bytes long.

this:-
(snipp)
Post by John Poltorak
ar cru .libs/glib.a
garray.o
gcache.o
gcompletion.o
(snipped more .o files)

Not sure why each object file gets listed on its individual line, but
this certainly is not a good idea, i.e. "ar cru foo.a bar1.o bar2.o"
(correct) is different from "ar cru foo.a <RETURN> bar1.o <RETURN> bar2.o"
(bad).
